ARMENIAN RELIEF SOCIETY "SEVAN" CHAPTER

The Armenian Relief Society “Sevan” Chapter of Ottawa was established on May 29, 1993 with 7 members; it currently has 39 members. Ottawa’s Chapter is one of the 10 Chapters of Canada’s A.R.S. Independent non-governmental and non-sectarian organization which affiliates 26 different countries bringing humanitarian help to all communities in distress, both locally and internationally Armenian and non Armenian alike.

The ARS promotes the Armenian language and culture by supporting the Ararat Armenian School of the ACAO/ACFO (Armenian Cultural Association of Ottawa/Armenian Cultural Foundation of Ottawa). We also support the Embassy of Armenia in Ottawa and Saint Mesrob Armenian Church of Ottawa.

We promote the educational, social, health and welfare of communities.

We contribute to the program of Scholarships for Canadian Armenian University Students and to Soseh Kindergarten/Youth Centre building. We raise funds for our home land Armenia Yerevan, Javakhk and Lori projects for Armenian youth summer camps, for project providing hot meals to help Iraqi and Syrian Armenians, Maternity Hospital, Vision 2020. We sponsor students and orphans, beds for the wounded soldiers, and many natural disasters (Fort McMurray, BC Fires, Ontario and Quebec floods, Ottawa and Gatineau tornadoes).

We also encourage our members to support local organizations such as the Canadian Red Cross, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, CHEO, Battered Women’s shelter, and many more.
